Cadets Danielle Parker, Matthew Moseley and Sergeant Wayne Musgrave all completed their RYA Start Windsurfing Course this Saturday at Draycote Water Sailing Club, in Rugby. Just one of the many externally recognised qualifications on offer through the Sea Cadets, Ordinary Cadet Parker commented “The course was really enjoyable, but tiring. I’m pleased I’ve done it and I’m looking to progress onto the Intermediate Course soon.”

“Start Windsurfing” Assessment Day
14 08 2008This Saturday (Sat 16th August 2008), cadets and members of the staff from Rugby Sea Cadets will complete their RYA Basic Windsurfing Course, held at Draycote Water Sailing Club. The course is being run by Sub Lieutenant Emma Woodward from Coventry Sea Cadets, who is an RYA Windsurfing Instructor. For those that pass the assessment, they will gain this Internationally recognised qualification from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). It also means points towards advancement for the cadets. Earlier this year, two instructors from the unit attended a week long Sea Cadet Instructor Qualifying (SCIQ) Course held at HMS Excellent in Portsmouth. Having successfully completed this course and a number of qualifications, both PSGT (SCC) Ben Fishwick and Wayne Musgrave have now been promoted to Sergeant (SCC). Congratulations to both of them!

South West Area Sailing Regatta
6 08 2008Four cadets from Rugby Sea Cadets represented the Warwickshire District Sea Cadets at the Sailing Regatta held last weekend in Plymouth. Petty Officer Cadet Alice Spiby (Helm) and Ordinary Cadet Declan McKenna took on teams from Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset & Dorset, Severn, Mercia, West Wales and South Wales, finishing 8th out of 18 in the Open Bosun Section, while Marine Cadet 2nd Class Ted Spiby and Ordinary Cadet Richard Suddens came 1st and 3rd respectively in the Open Pico Sections. Both Ted and Richard will be flying out to Dublin in September to represent the South West Area against cadets from all over the United Kingdom. We all wish them luck!
